The Interfaith Center & Congregation B’nai Israel invite religious leaders from all religious communities in Central Arkansas to a special interfaith luncheon in the Sukkah at Congregation B'nai Israel (3700 North Rodney Parham Road) on Tuesday, September 29 from 11:45am to 1:15pm.
For Jews at Congregation B’nai Israel, the Sukkah is a temporary shelter that symbolizes the transience of life and dependence on God. During the harvest festival of Sukkot, Jews are honored by the presence of guests in the Sukkah! So they have invited clergy friends from across religious traditions to gather for a vegetarian luncheon in the Sukkah. In case of rain we will hold the luncheon inside at the Temple, with a view of the Sukkah.
Rabbi Block is eager to welcome faith leaders into the Sukkah during the Festival of Sukkot, known to Christians as the Feast of Booths. Rabbi Block will discuss the mitzvah (religious obligation) of Ushpizin (inviting guests into the Sukkah), after an opening prayer and a word about hospitality from the Muslim tradition from Enes Erdin (Arkansas Culture and Dialog Center) and followed by a brief reflection on the Feast of Booths in Christianity from Rev. Lindy Vogado (Second Presbyterian Church).
Who should attend: This event is designed for clergy, board leaders, executive committee leaders, or other high-level congregational leaders. For more information, please email programs@theinterfaithcenter.org. or lfrauenthal@bnai-israel.us.
Please RSVP below if you plan to attend. We look forward to welcoming you to the Sukkah!
